Mount Carmel Center

Mount Carmel Center is the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Gaylord, Michigan. The building now serves as a performing arts center and has been a landmark for over 100 years.

The original roof and bell tower shingles were replaced with asbestos in the 1950’s. The original built-in gutters were covered with roof decking and flared to try to move rain water away from the sides of the building.

We recovered the original gutter system by rebuilding the wood framing and then lined it with copper. All joints in the gutter and flashing were soldered. The building also received new asphalt shingles on the main roof, slate on the bell tower, and the cross on top of the bell tower was gilded in 24-carat gold.
