Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Heart of Jesus Church was established in 1904 and owes it origin to the settlement of Polish immigrants in the Southwest part of Grand Rapids, many of whom worked in the local gypsum mines.
In 2010, the parish embarked on a full restoration of the exterior of the building that was completed in multiple phases over many years. Restoration efforts included new copper roofs on the bell towers, new limestone entablature, window replacement on the east side, terra cotta repairs which were capped with metal on skyward facing surfaces, resetting the tile roof, new copper gutters and downspouts, repointing masonry walls, and new curved tile roof on the apse.
